Why lasting change begins with listening.
Community knowledge is not a final checkpoint. It is where responsible programme design starts.
When programmes begin with predetermined answers, they can miss the barriers, strengths and systems already present in a place. Listening helps clarify what matters, who is affected and which role an organisation should responsibly play.
Good participation also has limits: a conversation is not consent, representation must not be assumed and expectations should be handled honestly. The goal is not to collect quotes. It is to make better decisions.
